Training for Success
Mynor Perdomo was unemployed for 18 months after sporadic employment at barely above minimum wage. Discouraged, he met with WIA staff in August 2010.
Mynor was given information, direction and encouragement by WIA staff, leading to a state approved Individual Training Account and vocational training. Less than a year from coming to the WIB, Mynor had earned the J Standard 001 Industry Certification through Pacific Coast Trade School in Oxnard. He was also connected with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, since he uses a wheelchair.
Mynor’s training immediately led to a job with Aerotech/CTS earning significantly more than earned prior to completing the training. Mynor feels like he can now “not just survive, but can also save a little.” Efforts are underway to obtain a new wheelchair through the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
